World Economic Forum – a new white paper: Circular Transformation of Industries

20 January 2025

The European Remanufacturing Council has participated in circular economy projects with the World Economic Forum since 2018. To mark the opening of the annual Davos meeting, WEF has published this new white paper - Circular Transformation of Industries: Unlocking Economic Value.  In it, the knowledge partners, Bain & Company along with University of Cambridge, have presented three models to industry.  One of the three is value retention through remanufacture and refurbishment.

“The World Economic Forum continues to be a remarkably productive marketplace in which businesses, academics and innovators peer into the future and define a practical pathway. I have often been a voice in favour of business models that bring back products to make them even better than new,” said David Fitzsimons.

The European Remanufacturing Network (ERN) project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement 645984.

The project was so successful that in January 2017 it was decided to create a European Remanufacturing Council funded by business membership subscriptions.

The ERN project (and the creation of a European Remanufacturing Council) was inspired by the earlier work of the Remanufacturing Industries Council in the USA.
