Two new members join our Steering Group

The committed and thoughtful experts who make up our five-member steering group have been joined by two new people for 2022/23: Professor Dave Peck, Associate Professor, Critical materials and product design at TU Delft in the Netherlands, and Riccardo Corridori Environmental, Health and Safety Affairs Senior Manager of COCIR, the European Trade Association representing the medical imaging, radiotherapy, health ICT, and electromedical industries.

Dave Peck has long advocated for Product Life Extension processes like remanufacturing and refurbishment because critical materials embedded in many complex products are being rapidly lost. This loss occurs when complex products are smashed up for material recycling and small quantities of high-performance materials which are uneconomic to separate are mixed into the streams of used ferrous and non-ferrous metals.  By extending the functional life of products we reduce the need to mine and refine more critical materials. 

Riccardo Corridori is based in Brussels and is deeply familiar with policy-making procedures. Riccardo is an advocate for ‘repair as made’ policies under which equipment is returned to its original ‘when new’ condition before being returned to use. This pragmatic approach gives nuance to the policy debate on the extent to which remanufactured products are to be regulated in comparison with equivalent new products. 

Their combined experience and aspirations for a more circular economy will strengthen our steering group as the council pushes forward, post-Covid, with its aim of reaching €100 billion remanufacturing sales in Europe by 2030.
