For sustainable products in a Circular Economy

Our joint submission on improving the transboundary movement of cores

The European Remanufacturing Council worked together with several other companies and associations to propose changes to the regulations for transboundary movements of waste. Why did we do this?

We are aware that some companies are investigating investment in large-scale, centralised centres designed to take back used products and components for disassembly, remanufacture, and material recycling. These potential investments are being considered in part because of risks arising from ongoing disputes over international trade relationships. Our aim is to remove the impediments put in the way of these investments by regulations written for waste materials and not for used products. After presentation of the submission to the European Commission’s DG GROW on 27th January, one official described it as the most comprehensive such document the department had received!

The European Remanufacturing Network (ERN) project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement 645984.

The project was so successful that in January 2017 it was decided to create a European Remanufacturing Council funded by business membership subscriptions.

The ERN project (and the creation of a European Remanufacturing Council) was inspired by the earlier work of the Remanufacturing Industries Council in the USA.
