For sustainable products in a Circular Economy

ERC appointed to EU Ecodesign Forum

17 January 2025

The European Remanufacturing Council has today been selected to join the new EU Ecodesign Forum for a period of five years. The first meeting will be held in Brussels on 19th and 20th February 2025.

“I look forward to working with the other members of the new EU Ecodesign Forum on this issue. For many products, the single most important ecodesign decision is the one that enables repair and remanufacture or refurbishment.  I congratulate the Commission for creating this new platform in order to debate the inevitable trade-offs demanded by ecodesign. The ESPR is an ambitious programme which, if well designed, could add significantly to the competitiveness of products designed and made in Europe”, said David Fitzsimons, Director, ERC.

The European Remanufacturing Network (ERN) project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement 645984.

The project was so successful that in January 2017 it was decided to create a European Remanufacturing Council funded by business membership subscriptions.

The ERN project (and the creation of a European Remanufacturing Council) was inspired by the earlier work of the Remanufacturing Industries Council in the USA.
